How We Work
Our Monadnock
affiliate is an independent nonprofit organization. We work with
Habitat for Humanity International, but we make decisions
locally, raise funds locally, and build locally. We work with
families in need in our area.
We build homes with the generous support of volunteers, local partners and sponsors, national partners, and hundreds of individual donors. Volunteers provide most of the labor at a Habitat build, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.
A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out
Habitat for Humanity offers
a hand up, not a hand out. Partner families help to build their
own homes and then buy them through zero-profit, zero-interest
mortgages. All house payments go into a revolving local Fund for
Humanity to help build more homes. Most partner families invest
hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building
their homes and the homes of others.
Our Mission
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to make housing a matter of action and conscience as a means to erase poverty housing from the earth. With continued local support, our work here will grow ever stronger. The need for affordable housing is no

less today than it was yesterday. We are here to respond to that need. We became an affiliate of the organization in 1990. To date, we have built 10 houses, providing safe, affordable shelter for over 25 people. |
