How can I be considered for a Habitat for Humanity house?

Thank you for your interest in the possibility of becoming a partner family with Monadnock Habitat for Humanity. MHFH collaborates with eligible partner families of low-to-moderate income. We offer a hand up rather than a handout to families who help to build their own homes and then buy them through zero-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Our partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. House payments go into a local Fund for Humanity to help build more homes.

We build homes with the generous support of volunteers, local partners and sponsors, national partners, and hundreds of individual donors. Volunteers provide most of the labor at  a Habitat build, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. We help families achieve homeownership by:

Keeping down the cost of building by designing simple homes, building with volunteer labor and donated materials wherever possible.
Offering interest free mortgages to partner families.

Eligibililty

All Habitat affiliates use the same set of guidelines to find families eligible to obtain housing with Monadnock Habitat for Humanity:

Income Eligibility : Income does not exceed Habitat's limits, yet is adequate to pay monthly expenses including: mortgage, property taxes, all utilities, maintenance costs and insurance.
Established Need : Current housing is determined to be unsuitable or substandard – If the other two requirements are met, we will schedule a “Home Visit” to evaluate level of need.
Willingness to Partner : Habitat and participating families form a partnership agreement: “Willingness” means not only completing the required number of hours of “Sweat Equity” on your house, or other Habitat projects, but also has to do with wanting to enter into an open honest partner relationship with Habitat.

When MHFH has available land, we will take applications for partner families. Please watch the website for announcements to that effect.
