Take a Hike for Humanity
This year's Hike Monadnock fund raiser was again highlighted by horrible weather - though not as bad as the year it snowed! But that did not stop the hardiest of the hikers from scrambling to the top. Teams that had raised pledges to complete the climb faithfully slogged through the downpours during the weekend or arranged group hikes later in the week to meet their obligations. Individual hikers probably deferred this year because of the nasty weather which had a dampening effect on the total funds raised this year. Fund Raising Chair Carol Garcia Landry said "Despite the weather we had a great group of enthusiastic hikers and their great sponsors helped us raise over $5,000.00." 2008 will be our 13th annual Hike. Any hiker who is interested in participating can hike either Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH or Blue Hills Reserve in Milton, MA. We invite you to join us. Individual hikers and/or teams gather sponsors to support their quest to reach the peak! Both Hike sites feature well-traveled trails that range from easy to difficult. And each trail offers desirable views. For information, simply call or email the Monadnock HFH office. Donate Land to Monadnock HFH... We have the energy and skill, we just need land! Land is scarce in New England and demand for affordable housing is growing. To do our work to meet the housing need, we require accessible, buildable (town water and sewerage) land in an area that a partner family will be able to enjoy. If you, or someone you know, would donate or sell such a plot, we are eager to hear from you. The reward from a land transfer is mutual: you receive favorable tax considerations for such a donation, and the money we save is automatically dedicated to building materials. |
