Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for volunteers for a wide range of areas. When we are building we are always in need of skilled volunteers as well as others who are not skilled in a particular area but are willing to help in any capacity needed. That can range from making lunches for our workers to painting or staining at our site to working with a skilled carpenter as a “gopher”.  We also have a lot of non-build related opportunities like serving on a committee or our Board of Directors. All are welcome and everyone brings talent.  Contact our office to add your name to our list of volunteers.

The “ Volunteer Up” icon on the left side of this page will direct you to an on line process to register with us as a volunteer. Once you have completed the volunteer form you will be able to access the daily needs for our current projects and you can sign up for the areas that you feel most comfortable. Please remember that several of our more technical areas require the work of certified craftsmen.

If you do not feel comfortable doing the physical aspects of Habitat work, we also need members of all of our committees and our Board of Directors to provide the structure for all of our efforts. No special qualifications other than your time and dedication are needed for most of our committees which are described below. You will also be able to volunteer for these positions by following the Volunteer Up icon. The following are our current list of functional committees and the main focus of each committee.

Building & Planning: Plan all aspects of our build from securing all of the necessary permits to designing the home to determining what assets we need to recruit to help us in the build. Our Building Committee is already meeting regularly. They meet every Friday at 1 pm at the Food Court in the Colony Mill and need new members, particularly those who have some experience in building homes. This is our most pressing need at this time.

Family Selection: & Family Support: Select the families who benefit from our homes and then encourage and assist them through all of the necessary paperwork and details after they move in. This is a long term effort to work with our families as long as they are our partners.

Site Selection: Find land where we can build homes! We are always looking for inexpensive land but are fortunate that at this time we have two sites to build on for the next two years.

Volunteers: The key to our success in building. This group solicits volunteers, keeps databases on volunteers, calls to set up required numbers of volunteers and meals for each day of a build. This is a very active group with upcoming builds!

Finance: Work with our Treasurer to insure our assets are well managed. Members on this committee should have a good knowledge of banking/finance or are knowledgeable about mortgages and the financial aspects of owning a home.
Fund Raising: This committee is pretty well self-explanatory. They are the eager people who help us find new ways to raise money and are key in setting up and running our existing fund raisers.

Faith Relations: Serves as a link between faith organizations in the Monadnock Region and MHFH. We encourage churches to establish continuing “covenant” relationships with MHFH. The committee often makes presentations to churches to enlist their support.

Public Relations: A small but energetic committee that does everything from publishing this newsletter to placing stories in newspapers or on the radio to promote our work. We are particularly interested in recruiting people who are able to work with newsletter software such as Word Publisher. Good writing skills are important. We also provide our amazing website supporters with text to update our site as needed.
